“But I’m here to tell you, one day you might want them to overlook your minor indiscretion at the Dollar Store and they will refuse, because they’re learning right from wrong from the thousand other times you’ve called it out when you’ve seen it—when someone is taken advantage of or injustice is allowed to persist or women are spoken about callously and it’s brushed off as “locker room talk.” They were listening when you said something.”
I had a pair of boots that snuck out from the bottom of a stroller that I forgot were there (I had a stack of clothes on the top I purchased) I noticed when I got the stroller out of the car, 1 hour from said old navy. My husband called me out in some way every time I wore them. 🤦🏻♀️
Read on the edge of my seat. My friend, a C R I M I N A L ? Laughed through this and also felt very encouraged. Love your voice, your heart, your writing, you!
When I had twin 2-year-olds and an infant, I inadvertently stole a bottle of spices (basil, maybe?) from Target. It had rolled under the baby's carseat, where he rode in the big basket of the cart. Even though I always tried to look there, just in case! But I didn't realize it until I had all of our groceries and both 2-year-olds in the car, and only had the baby left. Plus the bottle of spices, apparently. Oops. And I'll be damned if I was going to load THAT three-ring circus back up to pay for a $1.99 bottle of basil. Sorry, Target. I think you're doing okay.
“One day they will understand the pressure of being a mom and wanting to do the right thing every single time, but knowing you will mess up badly. And also, that in certain circumstances, your fear of being late may cloud your better judgement.”
Can I frame this and hang it on my wall, please and thank you lol
I am the oldest of 5 kids under all born within 5.5 years & this most definitely happened at least once in my lifetime, also at a Dollar Store. 😂 I think someone had a box & had put items in the box. The box was checked out but all items inside said box was not. It remained unknown until we were all buckled & my mom most definitely said something along the lines of, “it’s okay. We’re not getting out again. They won’t be missing the $5 worth of those items.” I still have that memory to this day 😂
This made me giggle. So good!! And I LOVE how your kids were like "no way mum, you got to make this right" but also I feeeeel the pain of not wanting to be late!!

I’m so delighted to know this 😝 no judgement from me (for obvious reasons)
“like Max Verstappen was behind the wheel.” TEAM RED BULL!
😆
Great story, Katie!
Thank you sweet friend!
This is amazing. Also, kids never forget the things we want them to but always remember the things we wish they wouldn’t. 🙃
This is the truest thing I know about motherhood 🤣

I am so glad you put this story in writing. 😜🤣
Thank you for encouraging my public confession 😜
Whenever we leave the dollar store, & I have 2 kids, im always overstimulated & sweating. What is it about that place? 😂😅
Small aisles and so many cheap trinkets! 🤣

Thank you for getting this, friend 😜
Yes! The car seat is the worst. I always check but we definitely came away with kids detangler spray one time 😂
Nothing like 5 other sweet babes to keep you accountable 😜😆
“She only came back because we made her!” Hahahah
This is so great! I mean, not that stealing a dollar dinosaur for a few days is great, but I would’ve 100% done that if I was in your place.
But I love that your kids have a great mum like you, and they wouldn’t even touched the “stolen” item.
