"We are all managing many, many, many levels of complexity. And I don’t know, but the older I get, the more I think that the most dangerous thing in the world might be forgetting that." Yes. YES. Thank you for this, friend. Your writing is always so compelling...I feel like your voice is so strong and tangible I can almost touch it! Thankful for this reminder of "sonder" today....to look outward and be reminded that I am just one small piece of the picture. It's easy to feel swallowed up by my own complexities/wrestlings, sometimes.
Beautiful - I always enjoy your writing. What a good word. I often wonder the same about my oldest - is it too much? As I was reading I thought a little bit about how that word also applies to my own children. For a while I am their world, but as they grow it goes spinning on and they have a whole internal world I may or may not be invited to join. They are not born to participate in my world as pawns, but as Charlotte Mason says, are “born persons”. I forget that some days.
Oh how I needed to hear this today. Sometimes I feel like I’m drowning in my own story and it’s so good to remember that God holds my story and there are so many other beautiful stories happening around me. As always, thank you, Katie, for writing to my heart.
Your words are always the reminder I need to hear and I am grateful that despite the time and distance you are still making an impact on my perspective. Miss you, friend.
Love this Katie. Loved the new word and the insight into your life and the reminder to always show kindness and compassion to others, because I don't know what they are dealing with in their lives! 💛
“And I guess the way I see it, I either make her question the validity of her curiosity, or I encourage it by the way I talk to her.” This one hit me hard. My 4 year old is a constant stream of questions all day long. Most days it’s easy for me to slow down and answer them, but If I’m honest it can be hard as it just add another layer of complexity to my day with 4 kids 6 and under. Thank you for the reminder that the way I respond is powerful as I want to foster the incredible curiosity he has.
Love your writing, as always. And now I have a new word to chew on for the rest of my life. 💕
Thank you friend, love you.
