I canceled my 40th birthday trip. The one we had spent sixteen months planning. The one with the house on the beach that I put a deposit down on a full year before we were scheduled to go. The one where four of my dear friends were coming in from all over the country to spend four days together, celebrating me. The one Sarah had already made all the food for. The one I had been saving money and dreaming about for so, so long. And I canceled it.

Because what was happening inside my home and heart felt paralyzing.
